Clean water in every classroom.
TerraKids places a filter in each classroom where it teaches, and pairs it with a day of lessons on safe water, hygiene, sanitation, and children's rights.
Children carry the habits home.
A child in a rural Lao school spends most of the day somewhere with no safe water. Thirst is met from whatever source is nearest, and the illness that follows keeps children out of class and parents away from work.
TerraKids launched in 2018 to change what a school day looks like. It began as a self-funded corporate social responsibility initiative of TerraClear Production, and outgrew that funding quickly as district education departments across the region began asking for help.
The program teaches children's rights, safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene — and it places a water filter in every classroom where it holds a training, so the lesson has somewhere to land. Students learn why and how to drink safely, and become the messengers who carry those habits home to their families.
TerraKids also runs workshops for teachers and school administrators, so the knowledge stays in the school after the training day ends.
Schools are chosen with the ministry, not for it.
TerraKids partners with District Education Ministries in Laos, who know which schools are most at risk.
The department identifies the school
District Education Ministries nominate at-risk and under-resourced schools. Working through them keeps the program aligned with local priorities.
Staff survey and plan together
TerraKids staff visit the school, assess its classrooms and water situation, and build a plan with the teachers for filter placement and training.
A training day, and filters that stay
Students and teachers take part in a day of educational programs, and a filter goes into every classroom. Separate workshops equip teachers and administrators.
From a single classroom to an entire school.
What does it take to give the gift of clean water to a school in Laos?
TerraCare reaches the household.
TerraKids looks after the school day. Our family program provides subsidized filters, training, and follow-up visits for rural households who could not otherwise afford one.
