Water Challenges
Limited Access to Clean Drinking Water –most of rural communities rely on untreated surface water, wells, or rainwater, which can be contaminated with bacteria, fecal matter, and parasites.
Waterborne Diseases – Diarrheal diseases, cholera, and other illnesses caused by unsafe drinking water are among the leading health concerns such as growth stunting, lack of absorption of nutrients, illness, mental fog, and susceptibility to disease.
Deforestation & Environmental Impact – Many households rely on boiling water with firewood for purification, contributing to deforestation and air pollution.
Limited Infrastructure & Investment – Rural areas lack the infrastructure for piped water systems, and investment in water and sanitation services is insufficient to meet growing demand.
Lack of Hygiene Awareness – While clean water access is critical, hygiene and sanitation practices (such as handwashing with soap) are also lacking in many communities, compounding health risks.
TerraClear Foundation addresses these challenges by providing affordable ceramic water filters, health education, and sustainable solutions to improve access to clean drinking water in Laos.
